AMAT is trading at 17X FY 98 eps, whereas the semiconductor equipment sector as a whole has been trading closer to 13X. There are plenty of good semi equip stocks with dominant market shares that are trading at 10X 1998 eps or less. I think anybody who buys AMAT is getting a great company, but they are paying an unusual premium to the group right now.
