danny, that's a great point on the palm distribution,ie., moving from a short to a long term gain. i am having difficulty following the put strategy. let's assume i own 500 shares of coms, to work the %ages out that you use in your example, what puts would i be buying? also, how do you feel about buying covered calls at say, july 115? and if your calls were assigned before the 12 months (short to long cap gain) i presume i would have a short term gain to pay etc., however, if they were assigned and i bought back into coms before d-day, wouldn't the short vs. long term cap gain apply all over again as the gain relates to the palms shares and subsequently selling after a 12 month hold. and lastly, the key question here for all of us is the worthiness of coms and palms as long term holds vs. selling now and realizing a tremendous gains that would have significant tax consequences. zepper
