Why is that so hard to believe? How many CDMA users are there worldwide right now (50 million or so)? How many will there be in 2005 (???). How many ASICS will QCOM sell this year for 2G phone systems (40 million or so)? How many ASICS will QCOM sell in 2005 for 2G, 2.5G, 3G, and all the others that don't exist now (car phones, laptops, vending machines, PDA's, etc.)? Plus, how many other parts of the CDMA value chain will be dumping royalties on QCOM's doorstep, now that everyone and their grandmother is trying to elbow their way into the wireless internet door?

I think you're doing QCOM a disservice to base their future value against some company's current value. What will Microsoft be worth in 5 years? What will Cisco be worth in 5 years? What will JDSU be worth in 5 years? If Microsoft could get their software onto all the devices that CDMA will exist on in 5 years, maybe they could be worth $1.7 trillion too.

Don't fear large numbers just because they are large. Perception is everything, and it changes constantly. Did you think QCOM would be worth 100 Billion in market cap. 16 months ago? Probably not. Do you think it's a bargain now? I do. If in 5 years QCOM is everywhere, you'll wonder how you ever thought to compare them with that rinky-dink outfit from Washington...
