Interesting. Compaq reckons there is so much growth in the eight way market, as its sales figures have proved, that it makes more sense to migrate the eight way model to McKinley, kind of leaving Itanium for the Itaniates>

It could also be that Intel isn't developing an 8-way chipset for Merced/Itanium. Intel does have an 870 chipset coming for McKinley and Foster, though, and that will be 8-way.
