Networking-Equipment Leader Cisco To Unveil Key Product Next Week

<<NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Cisco Systems Inc., the top maker of
computer-networking equipment, reportedly will officially unveil
a key product that can efficiently and simultaneously handle voice,
data and other network traffic at a networking trade show in Las
Vegas next week.

Internet publisher CNET Inc. Wednesday reported Cisco will showcase
its 3800 line of so-called concentrators, which are products that
handle Internet traffic and telecommunications traffic, at the
spring Networld+Interop trade show next week.

Shares of Cisco were up $2.50, or 5%, at $52.50 in Wednesday
afternoon trading. Three months ago, Cisco stock was trading at
around $67. Until recently, networking companies had been Wall Street
darlings. Lately, however, stocks have been hit by fears of stiffer
competition and the prospect that computer kingpins Intel Corp. and
Microsoft Corp. will expand their presence in the networking sector.

The 3800 product is seen as a key weapon for Cisco to fend off
smaller rivals, some of which are merging to better fight the giant. >>
