I'll attempt to explain it:

"Short squeeze"

Those who have sold the stock before first buying it (short) must now limit their loss by purchasing it at a higher price than what they sold at. This stock buy back process, when a highly shorted stock takes off, is referred to as a short squeeze. It has the effect of dramatic price increases due to the large demand to buy the stock as was witnessed today. :-)
