ORCL and CTXS will coexist because they are now both highly focussed on different but complementary niches. I have held both for about 3 years and watched both rise, then die, then rise again.

ORCL died because it started to focus on the nebulous "Network computer" and it devoted a lot of energy to non-existent products. Ellison was distracted by his boating etc, and his near-death experience was a wakeup call. The company was essentially reinvented as a networking database company and it will eat everyone's lunch because of huge B2B enterprises that promise to be huge revenue generators. I would not be surprised if Ellison has the last laugh over Gates. MSFT is stuck on the desktop, while Oracle is making deals with everyone in sight. I believe that ORCL has a strong chance of having a bigger market cap than MSFT in 2-3 years.

CTXS also reinvented itself. It is no longer just the leader in getting to Windows apps on servers, but it is the leader in ASP technology, and with the possibility of the 32 bit EPOC with CTXS technology running on wireless handsets CTXS may eventually make huge royalty revenues.

The future is bright for both companies. I would not be surprised if Oracle, using stock buys CTXS one day.
