The question was about running more that one software package per box. My opinion was that it is very common. Now that you mention Sun, it just makes my case. People typically run more than one software package than 1 on their Suns. Database may be the most important one, but there is a lot more stuff going on in application integration area.

They sell HUGE 64 BIT SERVERS for well over $100,000 a piece!

Have you made any budget proposals lately? Suppose you have 2 of these machines as Plan A, and 6 of them as Plan B, doing pretty much the same thing. Guess which one will be selected?
