ASC To Produce Next Generation BMW Z3
Roadster Convertible

ASC, along with Edscha
Cabrio-Verdecksysteme GmbH,
have been awarded a $260 million
contract to develop and produce
the complete roof system of the
next generation BMW Z3
Roadster.

For this project, ASC and Edscha
have agreed to form a 50/50 joint
venture company to develop and
deliver open-air systems. Development work will take place predominantly
in Germany, while production will be located in a new facility near BMW's
U.S. plant in Spartansburg, S.C.

ASC began working with BMW in 1996, and supplies soft and hardtops for
the current Z3 model. Edscha has supplied roof systems for BMW since
1985.

"We're pleased to work again with BMW on their next-generation Z3
Roadster," says Larry Doyle, ASC president and chief executive officer.
"Together, ASC and Edscha can produce one of the most sophisticated
convertible systems on the market."

The Edscha Group, a subsidiary of Edscha AG, Remscheid, Germany,
specializes in body products, convertible tops and sliding roofs for trucks.
The Edscha Group had 1998-99 FY sales of nearly $500 million, with
4,084 employees. The company has three German production locations
and 15 plants outside Germany.
