(ENGA) Madge.web and Engage to Offer Next Generation Streamed Advertising Service
BUSINESS WIRE - March 02, 2000 05:13
WEXHAM SPRINGS, United Kingdom, Mar 2, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Madge Broadcast Network to give Internet broadcasters and advertisers opportunity to gain revenue from streaming media

Madge.web(TM), a provider of network infrastructure and application services for the finance and media industries and wholly-owned subsidiary of Madge Networks N.V. (Nasdaq NM:MADGF), and Engage Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENGA), a leading provider of next generation online marketing solutions and a majority-owned operating company of CMGI, Inc., have joined forces to offer Internet broadcasters and advertisers delivery of targeted banner ads and rich media advertising over the Madge Broadcast Network (MBN(TM)).

Adding another dimension to MBN, which is powered by RealNetworks, the service will combine the leading online advertising management solutions from Engage with the European managed streaming media network from Madge.web. As part of the service, Internet broadcasters will have the option to outsource both the management and delivery of their streamed advertising to the MBN and Engage for the placement of targeted ads within their Internet broadcast.

Using a technology which combines the flexibility of traditional broadcasting with the targeting of the web, Internet broadcasters can combine audio and video advertising into their streaming media program. Through streaming advertising, broadcasters are given the opportunity to generate revenue by selling both streaming and banner advertising space, as well as additional sponsorship revenue.

Forrester Research predicts that worldwide Internet advertising spending is set to grow to as high as US$33 billion by 2004(1). Online advertisers can maximize this revenue opportunity by placing targeted advertising as audiences tap into streaming media content.

With the MBN/Engage service, customers will view the adverts through RealPlayer. The adverts will run either as a rotating banner ad or will be inserted into the Real media stream to provide access to more than 92 million registered users of RealPlayer worldwide.

Peter Chaplin, vice president international at Engage, commented: "There is enormous revenue opportunity out there for selling streamed and banner advertising for Internet broadcasts. Our advanced targeting capabilities will enable advertisers to place their ads as part of streamed programs to reach precise online audiences. They will also be able to benefit from the over 42 million anonymous profiles of web users contained in our Engage Knowledge database. Together with Madge.web we can offer the complete solution for streamed advertising."

Robert Madge, chief executive officer at Madge.web commented: "With MBN we are bringing an advanced online broadcast service to our customers. The combined strengths of our MBN media streaming services and Engage mean we are building complete and high quality Internet broadcast services for the media industry."
