Eric, Microsoft's OS already runs on Itanium That's possible, since Itanium can run/emulate x86. So you could probably run existing DOS, Windows 3.1 and even Windows 2000. What I am wondering is if the OS really is 64 bit. What portions are 64 bit, and what portions are unchanged? It's good that you are so confident that it will be ready. But even if it is not, the first Itanium systems will be just for experimentation anyway. So the occasional Blue Screens of Death will not be a problem. As for IA-32 code will suck on IA-64, who gives a damn!!! No one in there right mind would buy an IA-64 to run 32 bit code Thee are not any 64 bit applications ready yet. Maybe Microsoft will convert the Solitaire, so that you have something to run. And how do you convert the code of the applications without new versions of Visual C++, VB, Delphi, or Borland C++ that can generate 64 bit code? They are not out, and I don't think the next version of MSFT Visual Studio will come out before Itanium is supposed to come out. Microsoft will have all the back office components recompiled and ready to go. You seem to be very confident. Just a reminder: Intel 386 came out in 1987 (correct me if I am wrong).
