Hauppauge Digital and FAST TV SERVER Announce Internet Electronic Program Guide for Europe
Plan to Deliver PC Based Personal Video Recorder Products in Coming Months
HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2000--Personal Video Recorder functions, similar to those offered by Tivo and Replay in their digital video recorder set top boxes, will be offered to PC owners as Hauppauge Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAUP - news), the leading developer and manufacturer of digital video TV and data broadcast receiver products for personal computers, and FAST TV SERVER AG, Munich, Germany, announced at CeBIT 2000 a strategic partnership where FAST TV SERVER's European Electronic Program Guide (EPG) will be available to Hauppauge's WinTV users.
Hauppauge intends, in the coming months, to introduce new WinTV products with Personal Video Recorder functionality, similar to functions found in Tivo (NASDAQ:TIVO - news) and Replay products. These new WinTV's will be suited for the Personal Computer market, and in Europe will use the FAST TV SERVER EPG for scheduled viewing and recording of television shows. FAST TV SERVER's EPG, which is now online in Germany at tvtvtv.de, features the TV program and background information of over 80 TV channels available in Germany. It uses an Internet database of TV shows to allow the search for program information, such as actor name, show name, type of program. Consumers will be able to find their favorite shows, movies, news and sporting events by using their PC's web browser.
In addition to the new WinTV products, over 750,000 of Hauppauge's current European WinTV users will benefit from this Internet-based online Electronic Program Guide service, which will be made available through Hauppauge's European web sites.
Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge's Chief Executive Officer, stated, ``Hauppauge believes that Personal Computers based on our analog and digital WinTV products are well suited to become the hub of home entertainment systems in the future, and functions enabled by this convergence of the PC and the television will be far superior those found in stand alone set top boxes. The Internet Electronic Program Guide from FAST TV Server uses the Internet connectivity and disk capacity of PC's to make possible EPG-based direct viewed television and personal digital TV recording.'
