New York, NY - March 2, 2000 - Artstar.com, a division of Showstar Online.com, Inc. (OTC BB: ABID), announced today that over 11,600 listings contained in the world-renowned Who's Who in American Art? directory will be put online March 3. The illustrious art directory, which was first published in 1953, is available officially, for the first time, in an online format through Artstar.com. Its hosting on Artstar.com is the first phase of a strategic alliance between the premier art mega-site and Reed Elsevier Inc., a world-leading publisher and information provider.
"Who's Who in American Art? represents the best names from the American art world," said Kenneth Jay Linsner, vice president of Artstar.com. "This world-famous directory is one of the most comprehensive resources available on the art community in North America. By procuring a preferred relationship with Reed Elsevier Inc. it allows visitors to our site a wealth of information that up until now has only been available offline and continues to solidify Artstar.com's position as the place to go for 'Everything Art' online."
The Who`s Who in American Art? provides concise biographies and professional information on a select group of contributors to the visual arts from the United States, Canada and Mexico. It includes artists, administrators, consultants, critics, curators, dealers, historians, educators, lecturers, collectors, librarians and publishers. First published in 1953, the comprehensive art reference includes details on everything from an artist`s education and training, to awards and professional affiliations.
``For the first time, Internet users are now able to access the Who's Who in American Art? directory online through Artstar.com," said publisher Randy Mysel of National Register Publishing. "We are very excited to reach this milestone and look forward to continuing our relationship with Artstar.com."
Inclusion in Who's Who is by nomination only and entrants are selected according to strict criteria. Provisions are being made for nominations to be accepted online at Artstar.com.
In the second phase of its strategic alliance with Reed Elsevier, Artstar.com will also digitize and feature the American Art Directory? online. This is going to be the first time the industry's top resource for librarians and education professionals, students, artists and museum professionals will be available as a reference on the Internet.
