"Of course - but Intel's customers have ITanium systems for software development.

What about EV68 - does in even RUN ?"

Yes it runs and runs well.. more impressively it
uses 65 Watts and is quite small.

"They" may have Itanium systems for software development
but a 733 MHz Itanium will make little sense when
1.2 GHz Athlon and 1.5 GHz Willamette (both
with on chip L2) that will be shipping
at the same time. Too bad too ... if Itanium hadn't
had another year of delay it might have had a chance
for market penetration... if you want performance
you will probably have to go with Alpha. Today you
can buy an ES40 with 667 MHz Alphas that does:

83 - SpecFp95
40 - SpecInt95
2550 - MByte/Sec in McCalpin Stream

A glimpse of things to come when Alpha goes over a GHz
this summer.
