Arrow, I agree, great article!
Having made my bones with IBM mainframes (excuse me, large scale servers), it is rewarding to read an intelligent discussion of new technology being implemented on sophisticated, established technology. I remember being a rookie programmer and thinking VM was so cool! Just think, you could have your own machine and enjoy interactive computing. Pretty soon they came up with this thing called a PC that gave this kind of computing to the uneducated masses, it will never work I tell you!
I see the same kind of movement with Linux that I saw with UNIX several years ago. I am trying to figure how to make a few bucks with this trend so have bought companies that I think will play in this market. I keep saying RHAT is overpriced so have not bought that, did the same with MSFT.
Although I love IBM as a company, I have been selling the stock. I think there are hard times ahead, and we will see the 90s soon. There are better buys out there now, added to my position in Sun today. IBM has great technology, great people. However, I see too much of the old middle management creeping back in and LVG not doing much about it. JMHO. |
