GST Signs Another Deal

14:34 (BW) GST Becomes Preferred Telecommunications Provider At Maui Research
And Technology Park

VANCOUVER, Washington--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1996--GST Telecom Hawaii,
Inc., a subsidiary of GST Telecommunications, Inc. (AMEX:GST) and the Maui
Research and Technology Park (MRTP) today announced a partnership that will
enable GST to provide advanced telecommunications service to the park's
high-tech tenants.
"GST is proud to partner with the Maui Research and Technology Park to
provide telecommunications solutions to some of the state's premier high-tech
companies," said Rob Volker, vice president and general manager of GST
Telecom Hawaii, Inc. "This is just one of the many benefits of open
competition in Hawaii's telecommunications market."
"Our partnership with GST Telecom Hawaii will enable Maui Research and
Technology to provide the most advanced telecommunications capabilities and
services to current and future tenants," said Brett Klyver, director of
development for the Maui Research and Technology Park. The research center is
home to the Maui High Performance Computing Center, one of the largest and
most powerful computing facilities in the world.
Under the agreement, GST Telecom Hawaii will be the "preferred provider" of
telecommunications services for the park, including the new 60,000-square-foot
Maui Corporate Center. Other telecommunications companies may provide service
to the center, however MRTP officials will work first with GST to develop the
most beneficial telecommunications products and services package to meet
tenants' needs. Prior to the signing of this agreement, GTE Hawaiian Tel had
been the telecommunications provider for MRTP.
"GST has demonstrated its willingness to work with us to develop innovative
telecommunications solutions for our expanding tenant base," said Klyver.
"GST brings with it the telecommunications technology and expertise to create
new opportunities for Maui businesses as well as attract new high-tech
ventures to the Islands." GST will install fiber optic telecommunications
lines and other advanced telecommunications infrastructure that will link the
park with business centers throughout the Pacific.
GST Telecommunications, Inc., currently operates networks in fourteen cities
in the western United States and Hawaii, with additional networks under
construction in six cities in the San Francisco Bay area. The company
provides a broad range of integrated telecommunications products and services,
through the development and operation of competitive access and other
telecommunications networks.
GST's primary focus is customers located in Tier II and Tier III markets in
the western United States and Hawaii. In addition, the company manufactures
telecommunication switching equipment and provides network management and
billing systems through its wholly-owned subsidiary National Applied Computer
Technologies, Inc. of Orem, Utah.
