Kash,

You make good points but IMHO AMD should be much more focused on long term profits than a short term pop in asp's because of a feverish unplanned leap to higher speed grades. Even if they were already binning these speed grades this kind of a launch and the logistics involved will be rushed and will lead to the potential for a snafu. Up until now AMD has taken a conservative approach that has led to a certain "stride" that I think it would be a mistake to break. AMD may be downbinning parts but I was one of those who much preferred their strategy of slowly raising the MHz sweetspot and steadily phasing out the lower speed grades at a pace that the market could adapt to than this battle of attrition and PR. I fear that AMD will be drawn into fighting a single battle and losing focus on the true war which is for sustained and long term profitability. Aside from PR this is Intel's only possible motive, to de-focus and goad AMD into making a mistake.

Regards,

Epinephrine
