A look at the the PALM IPO. Went to $160 yesterday and settled at $95 the low of the day. A big ouch if one bought at the high. What's it worth.

From Hoovers.
The company has a commanding share of the market for handheld connected organizers -- more than 5 million users of its Palms and older PalmPilots support a mini-industry. Its Palm VII model adds wireless Internet access to address book, e-mail, and memo functions and can be fed abbreviated Internet data by the company's Palm.net service. Palm and rivals Psion and Nokia have teamed up to battle Microsoft's mobile computing platform.

1999 Net Inc. (mil.): $29.6
1-Yr. Net Inc. Growth: 610.3%
First day open: $145.00
First day close: $95.06
Shares offered (mil.): 23.0
Offering amount (mil.): $874.0
Post-offering shares (mil.): 562.258
Goldman, Sachs & Co.; Morgan Stanley Dean Witter; Merrill Lynch & Co.; Robertson, Stephens & Company are underwriters.

COMS at $80 has Mkt. Cap. (Mil) $ 27,623.13
RIMM Mktcap is 8.9M
Palm Rev in Nov99 quarter was 258M
RIMM rev for Q3 was 23M

The only thing that bothers mw is the post offering share amount. If all sold at $95 the PALM marketcap is $55B.
If sold at $38 it was worth a 22B cap. The math doesn't seem right and I'll have to dig some more.
