I checked out the Deltek and Niku web pages. Niku's web page is so slick that I'm still not sure exactly what their products do. But I wanted their products, the benefits they cited sound impressive. Deltek's web site isn't as slick, so I could get a much better understanding of their products. And it looks like their products are very similar to Niku's. One thing that Niku has that Deltek doesn't have is some sort of online marketplace for professional services. It doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but it is the kind of thing that the market is valuing highly these days.

Overall, it would appear that Deltek has been in the business longer and has more customers than Niku. In today's market, this experience is often viewed as a liability, in that management may be stuck in old ways of thinking and does not understand the potential nor have the flexibility to change. It appears that Deltek is moving to embrace the internet. Let's hope that its management is innovative enough to understand how embracing the net can improve its products and benefit its customers, is able to make this transition quickly, and is able to communicate this message effectively to customers as well as Wall Street.
