Though not with regard to Knight specifically, I've told more than a few people on SI and elsewhere that with tight, hard-to-make spreads, the practice of large scale, short-term position trading and even 'daytrading' are the order of the day at many market making firms. A "new" behavior, in that it's engaged in more aggressively than the "inventory management" such firms would traditionally engage in.
