Although our understanding now, thanks to our colleagues at Tech Channel who followed up our story, is that the 1GHz microprocessors will use aluminium interconnects and be fabbed at AMD's Austin plant, we had heard as early as October last year that the company was happy with its execution and, even then, could deliver 1GHz technology.

Scumbria,

Since AMD is using Al interconnects on the 1 G, it would seem that the Athlon has some room to move up in terms of the speed race. It has been said that using cu interconnects will provide a small boost.

Is there anyway to guage what the Athlon's maximum speed range will be at this point?
