We have a skilled labor shortage... My observations would certainly confirm that. Because of the booming building market here there is certainly a shortage in building trades, and because of the heavy concentration of tech companies, there is definite shortage of technology/information skills. Machine trades were tight when I came here in '88 and have gotten tighter. BTW, the unemployment rate in the RDU metro area is 1.2% (last figure I saw published.) When I left the corporate ratrace in '95, i had noticed that many managers and engineers held jobs 1 or 2 levels higher than they were probably qualified to fill.

...some tax breaks on educating OUR work force Agreed, but its harder to convince workers of the advantages of training when there are fairly high paying unskilled jobs available.

...our GVT works in mysterious ways NAAAAHHHH <gg>

...Soc.Sec. retirees This is a subject I follow with great interest. I really want to start collecting ASAP, but I don't really plan to stop working (or EARNING)Clearly a huge source of labor here, especially at the skilled/administrative level.

Well my MRK is down about 2 1/2 since my recent purchase. With stockpicking skill like that, I may have to work a little longer!!
