Alex--

Hey, try it, it's fun! Did you know that the Japanese (candles are Japanese) invented the futures market back in the 18th century? And for TA they did candles. The terminology's lots of fun ("Abandoned Babies", "Three White Soldiers", "Mat Hold", great stuff), too. But it's by no means nuts. These charts really do give you a better idea than anything else of buy/sell pressures.

Face it: much of what goes on in the equities markets is determined by the mood of the futures markets. And futures players play on an almost purely technical basis. And most of 'em use candles (in addition to a zillion other things as well).

Bollinger Bands are cool, too; but why not do it all. See:

iqc.com and alphachart.com

Hope this helps!!

Janice
