AsiaInfo Holdings

AsiaInfo Holdings (ASIA: news, msgs) priced at $24 per share, well above its $18-to-$20 range, and blasted to 103 15/16 my midafternoon.

The Beijing-based provider of IT software for the Internet is banking on intense interest in Asian Internet deals drummed up by such IPO deals as Chinadotcom's (CHINA: news, msgs).

"IPOs out of China have been a great way to make money in the past," said Ben Holmes of IPO Pros. "This is about as close to a Net infrastructure deal as we have seen out of that country."

Chinadotcom priced at $20 per share on its July 13. It's now trading at about 130.

AsiaInfo Holdings offered 4 million shares in a bid to raise $96 million. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter is the lead underwriter on the deal, which drew a ranking of 5 on a scale of 1 to 5 from IPO Pros.
