MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1997--Stephen D. Hayter, president and chief executive officer of Empyrean Diagnostics Ltd., announces that it has obtained the exclusive marketing rights in specific areas of the world, to two new products that can help prevent the transmission of infectious disease.
The initial marketing rights for Geda+ Gel and Geda Lotion are for India, China, Indonesia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Russia, all of the countries of the former U.S.S.R., Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Empyrean Diagnostics also has the right of refusal in many other regions of the world.
"We view the acquisition of these marketing rights as a primary step in Empyrean's move into becoming a total AIDS prevention company," said Hayter. He noted that this effort is a natural outgrowth of the company's work in the area of diagnostics testing for sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV , in areas of the world where AIDS is emerging as a major problem.
Geda+ Gel is a vaginal gel that acts as a spermicide, virucide, bactericide and fungicide. Geda+ prevents conception and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV , Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Chlamydia, gonorrhea and yeast infections, without causing damage to the cervical epithelium.
Geda Lotion has been designed to protect the skin from infectious microorganisms and can be used under latex gloves as a secondary barrier against infection.

This transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
