Both of these companies have been around forever >>5 yrs.

Both companies products are gonna get sucked onchip.

Where's the benefit to Intels topline or bottom line here.

If Intels raison d'etre for the acquisitions was acquiring leading edge technology then maybe it made sense.

Clearly the reason was to diversify as they had gained 90% of a slowly growing market.

As far as cisco. They buy young companies before the product has really hit. Occasionally they buy and basically shut it down - just taking a potential competitor out. Cisco has a fast growing market and they have done very well.

Intel MUST diversify IMHO or stock will suffer.

My only problem has been the companies they have bought and their market positioning.

Outside of Level One they have been relatively tiny outfits.
