Don't you see that Taggart Transcontinental and Rearden Steal are collectives too? The people at the top get to be individuals, but not the people who work there in the low level jobs. They are just numbers(or might as well be) to accounting, and payroll. The individual versus the collective could just as easily symbolize someones wish not to integrate into the collective of industrial America.
