This was info posted on the Yahoo board. Is this true? I would suspect it is not true. Due to the fact that no physician is going to use an easier device knowing it may fail. So what do the informed people think? Please let us know.

Does the AVE MDT product have a 80% market share currently in AAA devices?

long-term support for Ancure

As more long-term follow-up data becomes available, it is clear that GDT's non-supported one-piece implant (Ancure) is
better adapting to changes in the aneurysm than MDT's fully-supported, two-piece implant (AneuRx). As the depressurized
aneurysm shrinks, the AneuRx begins to bow which puts bending force on the junction in the middle of the graft. This
junction occasionally dislocates which immediately repressurizes the aneurysm and can lead to a fatal rupture. This most
frequently occurs at about 24 months post-op. Ancure is a compliant, one-piece graft that does not fail in this manner. Many
papers have been presented at physician conferences that outline this phenomenon and FDA is examining MDT's follow-up
data. Action may or may not be taken.
The advantage of AneuRx is that it is far easier to implant (smaller delivery catheter and simpler deployment) and can treat
more patients than Ancure. Both products are saving lives and are a far better option than the major open surgery that was
once the only treatment.
At the end of the day, however, patient safety is more important than physician convenience, and the GDT product is a
superior implant.
