unclewest: At the smarthouse demo, would you be kind enough to check on the role wireless has, if any.
do not recall answering you directly.
the moderator had the smart house room, located at echelon hq in palo alto, on a large monitor controlled by a laptop with modem. the camera in the room allowed us to view the room. a refresh button allowed the moderator to refresh/update the picture.
an assistant handed me a samsung wap cell phone. called the house, accessed the lonworks server, clicked on the correct room, clicked on desk lamp from the list of controlled items in that room, had two choices on or off...clicked on.
up on the stage, the moderator refreshed the picture...voila! light was on. next, i turned the light off.
we were assured that this was all real time.
seemed magical to me..i was in the orlando convention center..using a cell phone to turn on a desk lamp in a room in palo alto...and checked with a modem equipped laptop to make sure it came on. we were told the system can be used to change camera angles. dick tracy move over!
also heard that 900mhz wireless phones, with ability to control lonworks nodes built in, are available. this seems quite useful for use around properties, buildings, campuses to me.
