More news! This is from today's BARRONS in an article about Vodafone...

...The company (Vodafone) recently announced alliances with content providers Charles schwab, Sabre Travelocity.com and Infospace.com and with Internet technology providers Sun and IBM to provide a readily identifiable 'Net portal. The most ambitious alliance to date, however, is with French media and telecoms group Vivendi, signed in January. Vodafone and Vivendi are working to develop what they call MAP, a pan-European 'Net portal allowing access to e-commerce and information services via mobile phone, PC and TV, with a July startup target. "If they succeed in this they will be a long step ahead of the competition," says Weeden. "It could make them the AOL of the mobil world." Don't be surprised to see a similar U.S. portal launched by Vodafone and Bell Atlantic by this time next year.
