John, I am not familiar with prices outside the NYC area and part of the NE, but can reassure you that inflation is quite rampant in this area like 5% or more for the last 2 years.

Loaf of bread went from 1.60 to 2.15, quart of milk from 1.25 to 2.05 and the list goes on.

As to free market rents in NYC they are up anywere between 5% to 10% a year for the last 3 years. Housing prices the same story.

Now to make this issue clear rentals or mortgage payment are around 25% to 35% of income and food around 15%.

If one would take into account entertainment, restaurant and health care who also advanced around 5% a year also,and only clothing and computers are lower, then the inflationary picture is not what this administration and WS wants us to believe, but substantial more.
