Conveniently they forget to mention that you also need to install a NIC (network interface card) ? Or not?

There is nothing particularly complicated about installing a NIC card. Configuring network protocols and setting the bindings are easy once you know how. This could be addressed with a simple instruction document that included pictures. It can be mind numbing if you simply try to use the "Network Wizard" that comes with Windows.

Most people can handle running and splitting their own cable and already do for their multiple TVs. Any Radio Shack guy can help with questions.

I chose to let the Comcast guy do my install because:

1. It was free
2. I wanted to see for myself how well trained and knowledgeable they were.
