With the promise of providing digital modem speeds without the added expense and installation hassles associated with Integrated Services Digital Network, U.S. Robotics Corp. and Ramp Networks Inc. plan to deliver remote access routers that combine the performance of multiple analog modems.

Remote access leader U.S. Robotics unveiled Tuesday the LANLinker Dual Analog router for the home office and small office. The access router, which can be linked to a stand-alone PC or a local area network, or LAN, contains two analog modems that are based on U.S. Robotics' 56-kilobit-per-second x2 technology.

Routing Snafu Causes Internet Outage

<<<<< Internet service providers lost contact with nearly all national backbone operators at 11:14 a.m. Eastern time Friday. The outage effectively shut down a major portion of the Internet for at least 20 minutes.

Experts estimated up to 40 percent of Internet users were affected.
