Saf-T-Lok Shares Surge on Gun Lock Remarks by Clinton

New York, Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Saf-T-Lock Inc.
shares surged as much as eight-fold as investors bet that a joint
declaration by President Clinton and eight leading gun
manufacturers to install child-proof safety locks on guns would
prove to be a windfall for the company.
Saf-T-Lock manufactures a pushbutton handgun locking device
for handguns.
The company's shares rose 2 1/2 to 2 15/16 after touching
3 27/32. on a volume of 9.4 million shares, making it the second
most active in U.S. trading. That compares with an average daily
volume of 42,966 shares over the past six months.
In a Rose Garden ceremony this morning, executives from
eight major gun makers committed to equip all the handguns they
manufacture for sale in the United States with child-proof safety
locks.
``Today we stand together and stand with the law enforcement
community to do what we all know is right for our children,'
Clinton said.
Company officials weren't immediately available for comment.
