TollBridge Announces the Voice of Broadband Alliance and Open Source Licensing

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2000--

Voice-over-Broadband Vendor Alliance to Promote an Open Interoperability
Forum for Next-generation Service Deployments; Open

Source Licensing Extends DSL Voice Standards to All Broadband

TollBridge Technologies, the leading developer of high-quality voice-over-
broadband solutions for a new generation of carriers, today announced the
formation of the Voice of Broadband Alliance, a leadership initiative to
promote interoperability and standardization among broadband equipment vendors.

TollBridge is pioneering this effort to ensure that Voice of Broadband
Alliance partners are interoperable with TollBridge's standards-compliant voice
gateway and network management products. In conjunction with the launch of the
alliance, TollBridge also announced Open Source Licensing for its Integrated
Access Device (IAD) design.

"The Voice of Broadband Alliance will do a great deal to help solidify and
grow the VoDSL market," said John G. Metz, executive vice president of Sterling
Research, Inc. "By ensuring that its TollVoice technology is compatible with
DSL concentrators from Copper Mountain and other vendors, and also compatible
with a wide variety of CPE, TollBridge is making it easy for carriers and
service providers to implement VoDSL service."

TollBridge has spearheaded the alliance program to accelerate large-scale
deployments by next-generation carriers: Competitive Local Exchange Carriers
(CLEC's), Inter Exchange Carriers (IXC's), Internet Service Providers (ISPs),
Multi Service Operators (MSOs), and cable operators.

Alliance partners include the leading providers of DSL, cable and wireless
access equipment, Integrated Access Devices (IADs), Integrated Communications
Platforms (ICPs), semiconductor solutions, and next-generation switching and
services software platforms. To encourage this interoperability effort,
TollBridge has launched three groundbreaking initiatives:
-- Open Source Code Licensing for IAD Design
TollBridge is making available a GNU GPL (General Public
License) version of its DSL Forum-compliant IAD protocol. The
code will be available from the TollBridge Website to facilitate
rapid partner development and break down barriers to
interoperability.
-- Interoperability Lab
At its headquarters in Santa Clara, TollBridge is hosting an
interoperability lab specifically for Voice of Broadband Alliance
partners to ensure product interoperability. Products passing all
tests receive Powered by TollBridge certification and associated
logo for display in marketing materials.
-- Joint Standards Promotion
TollBridge is committed to an open standards environment for
voice-over-broadband equipment providers. TollBridge is investing
resources to jointly fund standards promotion and
interoperability activities as well as providing partners with
promotional space and equipment at industry events.

"Carriers need the cooperation of multiple vendors to offer voice-over-
broadband services for an end-to-end solution," said Agnes Imregh, vice
president of marketing for TollBridge Technologies. "Standards,
interoperability testing, and a commitment to making systems work together in
mass deployment are essential to attaining the hypergrowth for voice services
that translates into profits for next-generation carriers."
