Does anyone else here feel like Intel is about to make their blunders of the last few months seem like just small potatoes? This insistence on being to market with a 1Ghz chip seems to me like suicide. Sure the press will pick up on it and say, "See, the mighty Intel can keep pace with AMD", but in my opinion this effort will backfire in Intel's face. They have admitted that they can't produce their 1Ghz Copperless in any quantities till the 3rd qtr. Hell, they might as well announce the Williamena this week too, and ship all three demo samples they have claiming superiority in the mhz/ghz war. I see Athlon grabbing higher and higher percentages of the market as they will be able to produce these speeds in quantity well before that time. What a great job they have been doing at sandbagging, and Intel played right into their hand.

And what's up with that Rambus thing? Intel could dictate what we consumers could have for the last several years because they controlled the chip market. Do they think we are stupid? If Williamena is only going to work with Rambus this almost insures bad things for Intel for the foreseeable future IMO. Rambus fans sell while you can cause Intel has already said they are going elsewhere for memory solutions beyond Williamette.

Intel has been an amazing company for so many years. I am totally surprised they have made so many tactical mistakes, but their biggest errors in judgement are already laid out for us to see. They will be played out quite nicely in the coming months. Why else do you think Elmer and Paul are invested with AMD? All the propaganda in the world won't change the facts....Intel has loaded the chamber and the first couple of pulls have been lucky. They better drop the gun or else someone's gonna get hurt. I don't think it's going to be the AMD longs.

Ed P.
