A kind, caring, good-hearted person like Suzanne is usually very trusting of a disadvantaged person like Buddy. She would probably meet him anywhere at any time without fear.

He could have been waiting for her outside her apartment when she got home. She could have told him that she had to return the keys and that she would meet him somewhere on College St. They could have walked to the crime scene, something happened, he killed her, he went home, mom got rid of the bloody clothes and put Buddy to bed.
Sounds crazy, but it could've happened just that way.
