Dale, all -

I did a "whois" lookup on 4inchsquare.com to see who had registered that domain name.

Here's what I got:

Domain Name: 4INCHSQUARE.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Zone Contact:
Jensen, Shane (SJ1135) sjensen@DSW.COM
801 364 0919 (FAX) 801 536 7350
Billing Contact:
Jensen, Shane (SJ1135) sjensen@DSW.COM
801 364 0919 (FAX) 801 536 7350

Record last updated on 27-Mar-97.
Record created on 27-Mar-97.
Database last updated on 30-Apr-97 06:02:55 EDT.

Domain servers in listed order:

NS.DSW.COM 199.171.245.2
REPOST.COM 199.171.244.217

______________

No obvious official Iomega connection here, but 801 is the area code for Utah. Also, the domain was registered very recently. Further, the Iomega logo, complete with trademarks, is being used on this site.

All the above makes me think this could be a terrific marketing ploy.

The cut-out image on the web page is the right shape for a Jaz disk, and the size is right.

I'm thinking Jaz II is on the way. As I've said before, I expect capacity to be either 2 or 2.5 gigs, at $399 for an internal drive, and $499 for external. But what about media prices? The price per megabyte would have to be lower than SyJet's 8 cents.

Another possibility is just an IDE version of the current Jaz drive. But I doubt they would go to this much trouble for just a new interface on an old drive.

Now the question is, where did you get that URL, dale? A marketing ploy is useless unless people know about it. So how are they letting people know?

And another question. Is owning Iomega going to start being fun again? Could be . . .
