Stage II can mean many different things. However, the prognosis is generally quite good -- the cure rate very high -- using chemotherapy and radiation.

In particular, you might want your friend to find an oncologist who is familiar with the "Stanford" course of chemo. I presume that virtually every oncologist is now familiar with "Stanford", however.

No walk in the park, but I believe that the cure rate is very high. No need to find a clinical trial?
