Charles <Looking at the Gateway site, it appears to me that AMD may be getting about $200 more for the 1Gs than 850s.>
Well, I priced out similar systems from the 650/700/800/850/1000 base models to investigate the apparent difference due to the processor. It should be noted that the results do not necessarily imply the difference in Athlon prices as the vendor may be adjusting their margins or there could be other differences I missed in the configurations.
Base = the initial system configured with MS Works Simple = simple adjustments to 30Gig HD, 128MB SDRAM, VX900 19" monitor Detailed = simple adjustments plus 32MB Nvidia Riva TNT, 8x32x DVD + CDRW, SB Live, BA735 speakers +Base = Increase over base 650 system Increment = additional price over lower processor speed based on detailed configuration Pricewatch = best price (increment over Athlon 650), compare with +base column

Charles, I agree that AMD is likely an additional $200 to $250/1000 processor. The real benefit will be in market perception, especially if they can satisfy demand.
The price differences between different Athlon base models is very similar to the price differentials on Pricewatch -- especially with a little markup (15%) for Gateway.
I wonder how the markets (consumer and wall street) will receive these new products?
Predictions on when the 900/950/1000 will reach Pricewatch?
