You are a comic. The liberal special interests that back McCain known what they're doing:

If campaign spending is curbed, voters will naturally get more of their information from the same media elites and activist groups that (surprise!) support campaign finance restrictions. Mr. Smith's willingness to make that "special interest" media connection explains much of the animus aimed at his nomination.

We have a perfect case study up and running right now. The primary campaign so far has shown the influence the media can wield when they gang up behind a candidate. Ted Koppel of ABC has wondered aloud if Mr. McCain "is just so popular with us in the media that we are artificially breathing life into his campaign." Jeff Cohen of FAIR, the liberal media watchdog group, told Fox News that "McCain has gotten millions of dollars worth of free media, and that's the best media. That's better than a paid ad."

Indeed, it's even better than debate exposure. Senator McCain had to appear by satellite for Thursday evening's California cable debate because he had to scurry back to New York in time to take advantage of NBC's offer of yet another live "Today Show" report from his "Straight Talk Express."
