Sonera's subsidiary submits a bid in the 3G auction in the UK
March 6, 2000, 3:30 p.m.
Sonera Corporation's subsidiary Spectrum Company (Sonera's holding approx. 67%) has today submitted an official bid to the Radio Agency Office of the United Kingdom for a third generation mobile communications network licence.
...
The mobile communications market in the UK with its estimated 21 million customers is the second largest in Europe. The mobile phone penetration in the country is 41%. Because of its large number of culture and content service providers, the UK is an extremely interesting 3G mobile communications market.
- We see 3G as a natural continuation in the life span of mobile services. Sonera has already a 3G license in Finland, and we consider ourselves to be one of the companies in the world that can provide the most for the 3G world, Relander continues.
