Larry,

The truth is....yes, there are opportunities for poor children to become richer. But they often do this thru entertainment business....and that is, they have to be idol-like figures and can sing and act. Then they can really make some big bucks. Otherwise, they have to go thru really hard work and office politics, facing a possibility of layoff during depression and things like that. In the corporate society of hong kong, the rich folks basically control every aspect of the economy. If they want to layoff low-skilled workers, they can do so only to face some public criticism, which doesn't really stop them, because of the money power they have. If the poor folks are not knowledgeable enough, as in the case of investment, they can really get ripped off by the rich folks too. My impression towards hong kong is there are still a mass of poor people who have to fight thru their lives to face competition among each other and from the foreign high-skilled labor forces. Not too many high-tech companies can really hire the suitable workers for them. But in all, the hong kong gov did a reasonable good job to fight off the rich people from all over the world to influence the hong kong economy and its dollar. Some social aspects have to be considered by the rich, before pumpin' & dumpin' in a 3rd world economy. THe only victims are STILL the poor people who blindly follow the rich.

regards,

Ernest
