Big NewseXcelon Corporation and BEA Team to Provide Dynamic Data Caching for Enterprise JavaBeans --EJB-- Applications

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000--

Companies join forces in wide-ranging technology and marketing relationship to promote adoption of BEA WebLogic Server and eXcelon

Javlin for EJB applications with dynamic data caching

eXcelon Corporation (Nasdaq:EXLN), a leading supplier of dynamic business-to-business (B2B) solutions, today announced that they have entered into a strategic technical and marketing relationship with BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BEAS), The E-Commerce Transactions Company(TM). This relationship is designed to promote the widespread integration of BEA WebLogic Server(TM) and eXcelon's Javlin EJB dynamic data-cache server into mission-critical eBusiness applications.

BEA WebLogic Server is the market leading Java application server and provides the most comprehensive implementation of EJB technology. Javlin is an EJB data server that stores, manages, and delivers EJB-ready data to application servers using in-memory caches. Javlin also provides an extensible Java data framework that allows businesses to dynamically add data categories and attributes without bringing their system down, and is the only middle-tier data-server solution providing a Java Dynamic Data Framework. When used together, BEA WebLogic Server and Javlin provide a valuable solution for distributing EJB application logic and data across multiple application servers for large-scale EJB applications.

"There is a critical need for data servers in the middle-tier of EJB applications, because they eliminate database overload and bottleneck problems and vastly improve overall application performance, which is critical to meeting the extreme demands of the e-generation," said Joe Menard, president of the BEA E-Commerce Server Division. "We are excited about our relationship with eXcelon Corporation because we believe that Javlin is a superb data-server solution for our customers."

In addition to their technology agreement, eXcelon Corp. and BEA will plan a variety of joint sales and marketing activities, such as joint seminars, trade show appearances, and sales calls.

"We are extremely pleased to have BEA, the industry's leading EJB application server company, as our strategic partner," said Larry Alston, eXcelon's vice president of marketing. "We look forward to working aggressively with BEA to bring the benefits of BEA WebLogic Server and Javlin's dynamic data caching to eBusiness developers everywhere."
