In fairness, it's more the former. Look at the clock speeds of the microprocessors of today from either Intel or AMD vs. two or three years ago. Nobody else is close (Sun, IBM, Apple).

I've heard Andy Grove say several times that competition is good for Intel, and will make them better. I believe that.

CNBC, on AMD right now, saying that 1 GHz means a chip can process a billion bits of data a second. Gee, put a pretty face up there and they can say anything they want (wasn't Maria).
