The Wall Street Transcript Publishes Network Storage Report in Robertson Stephens Tech 2000 Special Issue
PR Newswire - March 06, 2000 15:17
NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-one leading analysts and top management of thirty-three Technology firms examine the Technology sector in the latest issue of The Wall Street Transcript (212-952-7433) or twst.com;
In a crucial review of this sector for investors and industry professionals, this valuable 174-page Special Issue features:
1) Network Storage - In an in-depth Analyst Interview (1,700 words) Dane Lewis, Senior Research Analyst on data storage and peripheral companies, with Robertson Stephens, examines the major players in this sector, what drives the market & shares his stock recommendations. Lewis declares, "The network storage sector is taking storage to the next step in its evolution. That is, instead of islands of storage, we are seeing more centralized storage that is being enabled by a number of developments in the industry, specifically Storage Area Networks (SANs), and Network Attached Storage (NAS). Both of these solutions enable users to cost effectively increase the amount of storage capacity and manage it with fewer IT resources."
Lewis states, "The clear market leaders in end nodes are QLogic (Nasdaq: QLGC) and Emulex (Nasdaq: EMLX). They have the lion's share of the OEM wins, in my view. There are other significant players in this market, namely JNI Corporation (Nasdaq: JNIC) and Adaptec (Nasdaq: ADPT), which has just announced its reentry into the Fibre Channel market. These four companies are the primary players in the space." Lewis says, "I think it's not only their technology, but also their support and ability to provide the customized firmware that is necessary to give OEMs the comfort that their FC solutions will get to market without any problems. So they have essentially staked out an early lead by developing partnerships. I would say that in general terms QLogic has had a fair amount of success in the NT space and Emulex in the Unix space, the exception to
that would be QLogic's strong relationships with Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), which is a Unix player."
Lewis informs, "IBM (NYSE: IBM), Dell (Nasdaq: DELL), Sun, Compaq (NYSE:CPQ), Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HWP) have yet to move major quantities of SAN hardware but it is coming. In addition EMC (NYSE: EMC) will continue to be a major force in SAN solutions." Lewis concludes, " I think EMC in particular has had success with SANs in Internet/eCommerce, and for that reason it has been successful. I think we
will see continued penetration of SANs in both segments, corporate IT departments as well as larger Internet/-eCommerce applications."

In the network-attached storage segment, Lewis says, "The market leader by far is Network Appliance (Nasdaq: NTAP). It is a company that we cover. It's a Buy-rated stock, and we think that they are the franchise name in this
space. They are increasing their capacity levels, increasing the maturity of their software, as well as the capability of their software." This 174-page Robertson Stephens Tech 2000 Issue also includes:
