The short portfolio did well today on an 18-point down day for the SPX. The long portfolio would have down well also, except for the heavy drop of COMS (-17.3%). The total portfolio was up despite COMS. After looking over the chart of COMS, it is very apparent that COMS is in a downtrend from the 52-week high. To avoid this situation in the future, no stocks will be bought if they are currently below 15% from the 52-week high and no stocks will be shorted if they are above 15% from the 52-week low.
