When we first began discussing bandwidth commodities, they were not likened to pork bellies, exactly. Air Pollution Rights and electric power (load shedding/sharing) which are traded among the utilities were more akin to b-w, conceptually, at the time. This goes back to the early to mid Nineties, prior to the d being prepended to wdm.
