That really was a good article. This situation is amazing. The Republicans have in McCain a popular charismatic dedicated conservative with leadership ability (i.e. another Reagan - only he'd be younger and more vigorous when he took office) and the Republican leadership and their lemming like followers are doing their best to cast him aside for a shallow loser. Why are they spurning a sure victory? Suicide wish? Or is protecting the special-interest gravy train more important than winning the White House and getting a chance to implement their policies?
