I am a Board Certified Cardiac Surgeon, and while an Intern at Mass. General Hospital in 1968, saw the tecnology being devoloped that Vaso is now bringing to the market. Counterpulsation involves lowering the Blood Pressure in the Aorta(main artery) a few microsecs. before the main pumping chamber of the heart pumps out its load of Blood. 95% of the Work of the normal Left Venticle(main pumping chamber) is pressure work, namely that work spent raising the pressure of the L Venticle from 0 to 80 and then steadily increasing it to 120mm Hg. Only 5% of the work in the Normal ventricle is "kinetic" work, namely that % of work moving blood out of the heart into the various organs. The Heart is therefore a relatively ineffecient Pump even in the Normal Healthy state. All the organs in the body care about is whether for example the Brain or kidney gets their 1.5 liters/min of blood with the oxygen and glucose, and other nutrients to keep these organs happy, and in simplistic terms could care less at which pressure this Blood is delivered. In the "old days", ie before this external device, a Balloon was inseerted up into the main artery (aorta) via an incision into the femoral artery(groin). Anothe operation was required for its removal, and due to the sheer bulk of this device there resulted a 1-2% rish of leg amputation. This was obviously woth the risk, when the alternative was impending death or not being able to wean the patient from the Heart-Lung Machine. Vaso technology is non-invasive--think of large blood preesure cuffs fitting all of both legs. Timed to the EKG, this device rapidly lowers the bodys BP before the maon pumping chambers ejects the blood out of the heart, and in the best of both worlds, raises the BP when the main pumping chamber is relaxed, filling with blood, and even more importantly recieving its own blood supply via the coronary arteries which supply the heart muscle with the neccary oxygen and nutieints to maintain adequate function. In a diseased or weakened heart with clogged arteries, this is VERY beneficial and can be the difference between a downhill Death spiral, or the opposite, namely getting things back on track. Heart disease is the # ONE killer in US and Western Countries.Health care is roughly 15% of our GDP, the numbers are huge and this tehnology is Here. Many Biotech Stocks are based on hopes and expectations, which will not all be realized. This technology is real, it is not new, but the external application is new, is non-invasive, won't result in amputations, and is going to be a very useful Adjunct in Cardiac Medicine. The company has sales inceasing 600-700% the past 2 quarters, and has seen its technology recognized by the Mayo Clinic,etc. This stock is groosly undervalued and once the Street understands what this product is, and the Funds start buying, like thet have done with many "Wish tecnologies" in the Biotech area, this stock has in my opinion virtually unlimited potential. Yes I own the stock, but am honestly very excited about this noninvasive tehnology with whic I am very familar, having seen the invasive form save hundreds of patients lives for me in my pracice of Heart Surgery.
